With over 25 years of experience in media, Michelle is an internationally recognized model, television personality, master of ceremonies, speaker, entrepreneur and philanthropist.
She started her international modeling career at 13 years, and went on to win the Miss Universe title in 1992 at the age of 19 years for Namibia. While living in Los Angeles from 1992 to 1995 she studied acting in Hollywood. During her year, she founded the Michelle McLean Children Trust, that raised over $50 mil for women and children in Southern Africa in the last 28 years.

MISS UNIVERSEThe journey since 1992
Michelle won the coveted title of Miss Universe in Bangkok, Thailand, 9th of May 1992, and the top 5 question would prove to be the trajectory for one of the most impactful chapters of her life. To the question, “What would you do if you were made leader of your country tomorrow?” Michelle responded, “I would look after the children, as they are the foundation of any nation”. She used the capital from the car she won, and established the Michelle McLean Children Trust (www.mmct.org.na) in Namibia, in 1992. Michelle has judged and hosted hundreds of modeling and beauty competitions around the world from diverse cultures like Iceland to Japan, Nigeria to Colombia, such as 15 Miss Namibia Universe Pageants, Miss South Africa Pageants as well as The Miss World Competition. As the Final Telecast Judge for Miss Universe competition she was on the elite first ever all-women selection panel in Bangkok, Thailand. Michelle was presented with the Life Time Achievement Award from the Miss Universe Organization in 1998, winning a notable award at the Global Beauty Awards in 2018 for her business and philanthropy work as a former Miss Universe. She is currently the Official Presentation Coach for Miss Florida USA and Miss California USA Organizations.

Michelle founded the Michelle McLean Children Trust, one of the largest non-for-profit organizations in Southern Africa, that has raised over $50 mil, and initiated and run hundreds of projects over the past 28 years. Michelle has also raised funds in different capacities over the years for President Nelson Mandela and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Trust. A UNICEF ambassador for many years, Michelle worked with Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu as an ambassador for SOS Children’s Villages in Southern Africa. The Michelle McLean Primary School provides education for over 900 children every year, since 2000 in the capital city Windhoek, where she also built a children’s ward at the Central Hospital. In addition they established the Michelle McLean School of Excellence, which provides, scholarships and entrepreneurial and financial skills training to thousands of students.

Michelle was born in Namibia and by spending her childhood in the bush her love and appreciation grew, for wild-life and the many diverse cultures and communities of Namibia. As a recognized Ambassador for Namibia, Michelle initiated and coordinated the Miss Universe Pageant in Namibia in 1995. With the viewership of a billion people, the idea was to bring tourism and investment to the country. It was huge success, seeing Namibia’s tourism increase the following year by 11%.
